6 Video Games That Would Make Great Movies

Movies like “Life of Pi” and “Wonder Woman” prove that with the right script and creative team, anything is possible, even what they say is impossible. I’ve put in movies that have had little to no talks about a movie going in development, so sorry The Last Of Us (hope this does get made). Here are 6 video games that would work well as movies:

Bioshock1602-2k_bioshock_gp_skin

Bioshock is a story of an unknown man who happens upon a city built entirely underwater. However, the city seems to have gone through some recent “civil war”, where many have been killed or forced to serve Andrew Ryan. It’s a gripping tale of a protagonist forced into the middle of a conflict because he is trying to get back to the surface.

“Why not Bioshock infinite?” Bioshock Infinite is probably the best of the whole series, however, it has a hugely complex story, and one that requires and audience to know things from events in previous games. The first one works well as a self contained linear story. There are some great elements to it, granted the silent protagonist would need some work. However, if you make him a carefree “Han Solo” type, that would work well in this story.

Mass Effect was developed by Bioware. It started with Shephard discovering the Reapers, and the series spawned 3 sequels. Mass Effect is a giant world with plenty of stories to tell. Film makers could focus on a linear version of the Shephard story arc, or on stories before the first movie, maybe one after the events of Mass Effect 3. Even a story about discovering Prothean technology and it’s impact on mankind. Personally, I would want to see a story of a new character, but a story that runs concurrently with Shephard’s story from the games.

Freddie Fishheader

Okay, before you stop reading, hear me out. Freddie fish is a mystery series for kids, in a similar light as Scooby Doo. It involved puzzles and really having to shake your head to figure out the “whodunit”. Why this would as a movie, aimed more at kids, is it now exposes the character to a new generation, reinvents the character, and also gives kids (and maybe adults) a fun mystery to solve.

FalloutFallout-4.jpg

The Fallout series is about an explorer of some kind surviving in a post apocalyptic 1960’s world. The stories are relatively linear, but always have an interesting premise. Fallout 3 and 4 would be a contrast to a movie like Mad Max, as they show a character taken from one world and plunged into another, as opposed to one who is used to the world around them. It would also be great to see a hybrid of mystery/ post apocalyptic adventure movie.

One of my personal favourites, this game has all the freedom to do what you want, but with epic linear stories. The main protagonist is thrown into the thick of a civil war in Skyrim, and just when things couldn’t get any more difficult dragons show up. In one of the greatest and most intriguing stories, it turns out the main character is one of the only people alive who could kill the dragons. As he discovers how they returned, the main character goes through the world making him or herself stronger. It would be easier to make this a series of movies, but one focused on the main story arc would work well.

Dishonoureddishonoredwallpaper2

Set in a noir/steampunk world, the queen’s most trusted guard is framed for her murder, and must now avenge her death, discover the real murderer, save the queen’s daughter, oh and he has the help of someone called the Outsider. This game has the right balance of supernatural and intrigue that would make it popular with mainstream audiences.

Proposed Director: Guy Richie

Honourable Mentions:

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2

Assassin’s Creed (It deserves another chance, I’d love another movie with that same cast as the first movie)

Dragon Age

LA Noire

Dying Light

Little Big Adventure
